IT’S OFFICIAL! Barbadian champion Kelvin “Bird” Daniel is the new motorcycle drag record holder in Grenada.

Riding the WOW Displays/Owen Proverbs Garage Kawasaki ZX10R, a machine equipped with a Sport Kawasaki Traction Control (S-KTRC) system, he blasted his way to the record of 9.231 seconds at the recently-held Grenada International Drags at the Pearls Airstrip in St Andrew.

“I won the motorbike side by side shootout, having recorded the fastest motorbike time of 9.231 ahead of Trinidad and Tobago’s riders Shawn Buggs on a Kawasaki Zx14, whose time was 9.277 seconds, and Garven Gomez on a nos-powered Kawasaki Zx10, who returned a time of 9.516 seconds,” Daniel said of his feat.

Noting that he was satisfied with his performance against the fastest in the Caribbean, the champion cyclist said he was impressed with the hospitality of the Grenadians and pointed out that the hosts took good care of the Barbadians on tour.

“I want to thank the Almighty for health and strength and also to my sponsors, Automotive Art, Wow Displays, Damarios Cycles, O.P. Garage and MB Auto, for without them it would not have been possible,” Daniel added.

Apart from the Grenada record, Daniel is also the St Lucia record holder, with a time of 9.129 seconds set last year at the St Lucia Bikers Club Drag Warz at the BASE drag strip in Vieux Fort. He also holds the Barbados quarter mile record of 8.971 seconds and the eighth of mile mark of 6.118 seconds.

The other Barbadian cyclist at the meet, Sheridan Mohammed, on a Suzuki GSXR 1000, returned a personal best of 10.071 seconds.

Trinidadian female rider Janel Alberado was among the other competitors drawn from Antigua, Trinidad and Tobago, St Maarten, Barbados and Grenada.
