Down to the wire for Launch Control 5
The Barbados Association of Dragsters and Drifters (BADD) brings down the curtain on the final event of both its season as well as the 2018 motorsport calendar in Barbados.
Five drivers have a mathematical chance at taking the overall 2018 championship:
Andre Walcott in his Suzuki Swift is the current leader on 340 points. Team-mate Shawn Eversley, also in a Swift is on 295. Derek Pinto in a Honda Civic is on 293, while rookie Tyrone Simpson in a Toyota Corolla has 293. Lastly, club Vice-Chairman Colin Goodman in his Opel Tigra is on 233. With a maximum of 128 points up for grabs, it is truly anyone’s game.
BADD lost one of its founders in November – Cedric “Bugs” Shepherd was a force in drag racing in the 80s and 90s in his mighty Ford Capri V8, always battling closely with the likes of Euclid Branker and others. Launch Control 5 is dedicated to the memory of Bugs. Club Chairman Jason Downey said “we have invited the old guard to come out to the event. They may not be drivers on the day, but I think it would be great for them to share some of their stories and experiences with the other competitors and the fans on hand. BADD will be celebrating 10 years next year, and we have some special things planned at our events in 2019”.
Launch Control 5 will also see the return of the drifting demonstrations. A few lucky patrons will get to sit alongside drift master Geoffrey Ullyett as he takes them for a spin in his powerful BMW M3.
