Records tumble at John “tiny” Harrison Memorial Race Meet

The weekend of May 6 and 7 saw the second round of the Barbados Association of Dragsters and Drifters at the Bushy Park Circuit.  Group winners from the opening round, held on March 26, were back in action to continue their chase for driver title.

Saturday May 6 was qualifying and practice, and it was Jimmy Small driving a Mitsubishi Evo VII who took the fastest qualifying time – and new record – of 6.283.

Racing started in earnest on Sunday May 7, under cloudy skies.  Andre Walcott in his Courts i-finance, Courts Optical, m-grafix, SE Performance Suzuki Swift GTi took top honors in the 10 second class.  Devon Holder in his Kermits Bar, DCR Motorsport, BMI Engineering Mitsubishi Lancer, runner-up in his class in March, went one better to win the 9.5 second class.  Nicholas Pinto, another winner from the last event, returned to top the 9 second group in his nitrous-fed Mitsubishi Colt.  Shawn Eversley in his SE Performance, Kermit's Bar, L&N Workshop Suzuki Swift GTi won the 8.5 second group, while his workmate Kevin Griffith, also in a Suzuki Swift GTi not only made off with honors in the 8 second group, but also set a new FWD record of 8.098.  Reco Barrow in a Mitsubishi Evo VI won the 7.5 second class, and Corey Stanford in the SDRR Toyota Corolla won the 7 second class.  Robert Bishop, sharing the Evo VII with Jimmy Small, managed to do a better time than Small and take the 6 second class.  Dan Johnson, driving his electric-powered Westfiled lowered his previous RWD record further to 6.462.

But the action didn’t stop there.  BPMSI drivers were invited to the grudge match portion of the proceedings, and Suleman “Sol” Esuf, using his brother Ahmed’s Evo IX came out to re-take his record.  In fact, the record changed hands 2 more times that evening.  Small and Sol had one of the closest and fastest races on record.  Sol did 6.226, but Small won with a time of 6.224 – just 2 thousandths quicker.  Bishop then took over and set another record of 6.136.  But it was Sol who ended the evening on 6.131.

New Records:

FWD – 8.098 – Kevin Griffith – Suzuki Swift GTi

RWD – 6.462 – Dan Johnson – Westfield Megawatt

4WD – 6.131 – Suleman Esuf – Mitsubishi Evo IX
